Since I last wrote, we have finally finished relocating the fiction and non-fiction books to their more permanent location. The shelving units are now easily accessible for all, and with the removal of the centre shelves, the library has a more open look. We have gained two new display units, one for magazines and picture books, while the other is used to display newly purchased books. The new coloured tables have given the library a fresh look with a flexible layout. I will try and add some new photos in the next posting.
The Library has also been hosting meetings during the last couple of weeks. The Reading Program that is held in the library a few mornings per week, held their Thankyou Morning Tea for the volunteers and student presentations. Also, Year 10 Exams (Special Provisions) were held here for a few days.
Year 12 Farewell Assembly, Graduation Mass and Presentation were held on 28th & 29th Sept, so we have been busy video recording these special events. Also, we have replaced the video shelving units with wall shelving and have relocated some of video collection onto this. This has given us more floor space while freeing up more space in the AV room.
Commencing Term 4, we will be introducing a new booking system for equipment, library space and resources. “Clickview” will be available from the staff room computers, as well as the library front desk. Staff members will now need to use Clickview in order to book laptop trolley’s, text books, data projectors, TV’s, DVD/Video players, overhead projectors, and any other resources that requires prior booking. It is a relatively easy program to use, so hopefully there won’t be too many problems with its introduction.

Web 2 tools
Since commencing our Web2 tools learning group, I have learnt quite alot. Some things more useful than others. I found Image Generators quite enjoyable, as this is something I can see us using for the library. We could make our own signs & posters to encourage reading in the library, or even to catch the attention of students.
Also the RSS feeds would benefit us as we can be kept updated on particular items of interest, without having to waste time to go looking for it.
Google tools (docs) I found really interesting, but unsure on how to utilise these in the library/school setting as yet. Maybe the Librarian could use this tool to create a book order list for the Year 10/11/12. This could be posted to the KLA's to input their orders, then this is forwarded to the Book supplier?

The library has been very busy during the last two weeks.
The good news is that Julie is back on the force, thank goodness.
Marian's last day was Wednesday, as she has now retired after 20 years of dedicated service in the library. The dinner that was held in Marian's honour attracted 60 people and was a wonderful evening where some terrific speeches were given. We wish her all the best for her retirement, and Marian will certainly be missed by all. (Marian has left some mighty shoes to fill).
During the last few months, Marian has been going through the video collection and adding them to Unicorn system, as well as discarding any out dated videos. This is a long and time consuming project and is still ongoing.
Kerrie is still keeping up with relocating the fiction to a more visible and easily accessible area. This has already drawn more students to the area. The non-fiction is slowly being moved along the shelves to replace the fiction section. The magazines are also located in this area. We are still waiting for the new tables and some new shelving units to arrive.
Kerrie is going on leave for five weeks as from Monday 25 May until 29 June. Janine Hannah will be filling in for her during this time. Janine was previously from Caroline Chisholm College.
The number of senior students using the library during study time has increased slightly, with numbers sometimes reaching approx 30 - 35 per lesson.
There is still a constant stream of new books coming through the library, with many still waiting to be covered. We are fortunate enough to still have Robyn volunteering 1 day per week to cover books for us. This is such a great help.

Things have been really busy in the library this week.
Another 20 copies of To Kill A Mocking Bird arrived, processed and distributed to the remainder of the class. Also, the small green & orange English text books (which are to be kept in the classrooms) have finally been covered and given back to the department.
Kerrie has been busy moving the Fiction and Premier's Reading Challenge to a new location, moving tables and chairs, so don't have a shock when you come to the library for the first time. The new seating arrangements seem to be working good, especially with the seniors.
The TV recordings are working great, once Marian worked out the new stations. There hasn't been much recording happening so it's not too busy in that area at the moment. Marian has been keeping herself very busy doing a big clean out of all old tapes, papers etc. She has not slowed down at all. Marian has also been going through alot of her work with me, so hopefully I won't be totally lost in the job when she leaves.
The students ID cards have finally been given out, and they are working great. Majority of the students are presenting their cards whilst borrowing, which has been speeding up the process. For some reason some students did not receive their ID card, so hopefully they won't have to wait too long for one to be issued.
Task assessments have been issued already for this term, so there is Overnight Loan only for Egypt, with No Loan on Tutankhamun. Also Overnight Loan only for leaders of Christian, Buddhist and Hindu people.
The school musical The Wiz starts on Thursday, so Ben will be video recording this for us for the whole 3 shows. This should be good, can't wait to see it on Friday.

Here is an update on what’s been happening in the library lately.
The first day back, the Anzac Ceremony was held in the hall and went very well. Chris Raicivich and Jacob Leslie put on a first-rate performance with their duet of drums and singing. Of course, Marian video recorded this moving memorial.
Marian has had the TV technicians out to fix the reception on the television. They did a great job and the digital set-top box is picking up the extra stations. The reception is now much clearer.
A few senior classes have come in to collect their readers. Judy. Smith’s class ran short on To Kill A Mocking Bird, so another set has been ordered and will hopefully be arriving very soon. Also Maryanne Tyrell’s class for An Imaginary Life ran out so another 15 books of those have been ordered also.
Four red trolleys have been delivered and are already being used. Lots more books have arrived, with some back orders arriving as well. We are still waiting for the delivery of our new wave tables.
During the school holidays, the school’s network was upgraded. Unfortunately we haven’t noticed Unicorn working any faster. Two of the laptop towers have been upgraded, while the staff laptops and other towers are in the process of being upgraded.
Years 7 and 9 are both on camp from Monday 5 May to Wed 7 May, so the digital video cameras were in high demand, but TAS has loaned one of their camera’s to Carole Peare who is going on the Year 7 camp.
The students I.D/Library Cards should hopefully be given out to them by end of Week 2. When students are borrowing books from the Library they will need to present their library card from them on. The students have been advised that if these cards are lost, they will need to pay $5 to replace them. We tested a few in the library and they seem to be working fine. Let’s see how this goes.
On Thursday afternoons, the library staff will be working on their Web2 learning course for 2 hours. This way we will be able to assist each other in learning, and work together on what would work best in the library. Hopefully, this way we may finish the course within the required 6 months time frame. We have held one session and so far it has been good learning experience.
All in all it has been a very full on week, but we managed to get through everything OK.
